Paraben free deodrant

We popped into Tamimi and noticed there was a big display of KISS MY FACE products. I am so happy that supermarkets here are starting to sell more products that are suitable for vegans, environmentally friendly, paraben and aluminium free and are not tested on animals. Besides Tamimi, you can find Natures Gate products in Lulu and Juice Organics toiletries at Biobest.

Out of all the products that you may use daily, there are two products that I would urge you to change immediately. Firstly, ensure your toothpaste is fluoride free. Click here to read more about fluoride. Secondly, check your deodorant. If your deodorant contains aluminum or parabens, then again get rid of it. Aluminum has been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Parabens are used as preservative and have been found in breast cancer tissue. Click here to read about parabens.

This is such good value! Under 15 SAR compared to the 21 SAR we pay at Biobest.

KISS MY FACE do use the naturally occurring mineral Potassium Alum in their deodorants. According to their website, there is a difference between Aluminum and Alum.

Although this natural mineral does contain the element Aluminum, it is not in a form that is absorbable by the human body. Most chemical aluminum compounds are in a form that allows the aluminum to become free as a positively charged particle.

Potassium alum molecules have a negative ionic charge, making it unable to pass through the cell wall. THEY ARE NOT ABSORBED. Alum and Aluminum are two different substances, with distinct chemical signatures. They possess different chemical properties which create different chemical attributes.

  1. Salam Sarah,

This question is a little off topic but I was wondering about fluoride levels in the water in Riyadh. I recently started getting Nestle water at home and I noticed that the bottle said “flouridated water”. Is the level of fluoride in this something to be concerned about and if so are there are any alternatives to this?

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

    Regards, Wardah

    • Hi Wardah,

Thanks for your question. I’ve written a blog post about water quality in KSA and I’m just waiting for final approval before I can publish it. To put it simply, the tap water in KSA contains fluoride. If I recall correctly, the Nestle water is just tap water that has been filtered and bottled. Therefore, it will still contain fluoride. In addition, some water companies add fluoride to the water, and this is labelled as “fluoridated water.”

The level of fluoride in the water is the same as international standards. I would suggest doing further research on fluoride and whether you should be concerned about it.

When it comes to water, we use filtered water throughout the house. For cooking needs, we use water that has been filtered with the Berkey filter. For our drinking needs, we buy Evian/Volvic/Aqua Panna/Voss in the glass bottles. The most economical method to have drinking water would be to use the Berkey.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

      Best,
      Sarah

    • There’s are stores selling essential oils in the panorama and hayat mall in riyadh. I can’t remember the name of the store but you can’t miss it. The one at the hayat mall is next to a store selling cooking/baking equipment. The essential oils are from Lebanon and are really powerful. I hope this helps.
