Who’s up for a 5k charity run through Riyadh in February? Well, if you said yes, and you’re a male, then Run 4 Riyadh is for you!
Run 4 Riyadh, newly inaugurated by our Riyadh Governor, Prince Turki, is a 5k charity run through Riyadh. The run is open to males of all ages. Its aim is to raise awareness of health and frequent exercise for a disease free lifestyle. While it’s titled “Run 4 Riyadh,” you can walk, run or jog the 5k.
Registering is easy – you can do so via their website here or through their app.
Once registered, you will be given a location to collect a race pack upon receipt of the fee. The race pack provides you with a bag, a running shirt, and your personal race number.
Run 4 Riyadh organizers recommend you start preparing for your run early on. Their website will provide preparation tips in Arabic. If you can’t read Arabic, then I suggest following a “Couch to 5k” program. While the official program is 9 weeks of training, there are several shorter options available, with more intense training.
If running isn’t an option, get used to walking 5k. Even better, check the route map below and get used to walking that route. I’ve walked the race route countless times, and it usually takes me about 45 – 50 minutes. I walk with an abaya and ballet flats (I just can’t wear trainers with an abaya!), so I am positive that your time will be better than mine! Get practicing guys!
On the day of the race, you will be required to head to King Abdullah Park before the race, and in your race shirt. The race is divided into three categories – run, jog and walk. Depending on which category you choose, you will have a different arrival time. The exact start time of each race is still being finalized, but they will be held before Dhur prayer.
Please note, if you don’t have your race shirt on, you will not be allowed to participate.
A dedicated area will be provided for your friends and family to cheer you on, so don’t forget to bring them along!
Upon completion of the race, you will also get a medal and gift bags. In addition, all participants will be entered into a prize draw to win a car!
Good luck to everyone participating! Stay tuned for more health related events later this year!
Now to all my female readers, there’s a charity 5k being planned in the DQ, but since there have been some issues with finalizing insurance, this will be postponed until the end of this year or early next year. I’ll keep you posted! In the mean time, if you haven’t already, check out Riyadh Road Runners. They hold several race events between September and March of each year! Otherwise, I guess we have to be a patient for a little longer!
